Thread: 1st time poster

Like I said i'm a first time poster and user in this forum. I'm 60 years old and have some razors that my Father gave me 25 years ago. There are pictures of them @ www.flicker.com/photos/74091958@NO8 any info people can give me about theses razors and maybe which one to use to get honed and sharpened would be nice. I would like to try to shave with them but have to work up the nerve. Also where to get them sharpened would be useful info. I live near the Lubbock, Texas area. Thanks for your time.

your link is broken. If you list the names (all writing stamped in/on the razor, actually), we could give you a better idea which are the more popular brands around here, and possibly how old they are. If you also list the condition they are in (rusty, patinaed, good shape, etc) that would help. Many, many people on this site will hone your razors for a small fee, some even for free. Many are listed as moderators.

You have alot of razors there! OK, here goes:
1. Anders Frary & Clark - razor looks useable. Unrecognized name.
2. Fox Cutlery - Razor looks useable. Recognized but not especially popular brand.
3. Century - OK brand, blade is badly worn
4. Specialty trading (solingen) - Most blades from Solingen Germany are quality razors. I don't recognize the brand, though. Doesn't matter, because the blade is badly worn.
5. Finn the Razor King - This is the best specimen you have. Little to no hone wear. Clean it up and get it sharpened. Urecognized name, though.

All of those razors look serviceable. You should contact a pro honer in the classified's here & have them honed: Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

All you will need then is some quality shave soap (not the canned stuff), a brush, and a strop. I would like to suggest The Finest In Gentlemens Shaving And Grooming Needs for any of these products as they don't sell anything that is junk and the customer service is thru the roof.

I'm thinking Number one would be Landers, Frary, and Clark of New Britain, Conn.
They made great pocket knives back in the day and I suspect their razors would be great too.

'Had a LFC. The only hist I could find was one Glen sold. Apparently they were a premium grade razor. The one I had was as good as any hollow I've used.
