Thread: Where to find/buy?

Looking for a quality 4/8 French point in stainless for the wife. I briefly found some last year when she was still fence sitting and trying to figure out what would work but they went out of stock and are no longer carried. I want to try to have something in hand by the end of February for a surprise so I'm not in a time crunch but can't really wait indefinitely for an out of stock message to change.

I'm also open to other suggestions folks would like to offer them. I've put stainless forward as a requirement after my carbon came back from a shower needing help. She's putting forward the French point for visibility/detail work after not liking the rounded point on my razor. Outside of that, I think everything else is negotiable.

4/8 Stainless French point...that I don't know if you will find or not. This may be something you have to contract out/have made from one of the known razor makers. A carbon steel one like a MAB or DePews would be a possibility, but there would be the additional care required for a CS blade as you already know.

That will probably be hard to find; but it will be easy to make.

Dovo makes great stainless blades. You could get one of their 5/8 stainless blades and reshape the tip from round to French, Spanish or whatever you want. If you want to spend more time, I suppose you could hone it down to a 4/8 width, too.
If you don't know how to do all this, you could contact one of the restorers / honers in the vendor section, and ask them if they would do it for you.

Could you possibly convince her to try out a spanish point? If so, shavingshop.com has a pretty good selection of Friodurs that might fit the bill. I know it's not exactly what you were looking for, but maybe it can work out.

I just remembered that Revisor sells lots of vintage blades, including 4/8 blades and stainless blades. Many of the vintage blades tend to be more expensive than new blades, though. They'll probably need to be honed, too. Still, it might be worth a look.

Possibly. Maybe even a square too. She thinks the 6/8 might be "too big" at the same time I'm drooling over 8/8 and larger.

I think this one fits your bill to a tee! It's a buy it now!! I remembered seeing it the other day. I was thinking it was listed as a French point.
