Thread: Help for a Newbe - Dovo Inox French Point

I got my first straight razor from my wife xmas. I love it. It's a replaceable blade. So I went online and bid on another replaceable. But instead I received a Dovo Stainless Steel Inox, French Point 3/8. Has anyone used this razor? Is it worth the price I paid, $35?

If it's not damaged and it is properly maintained...it will last you a long time. What it's worth is really a subjective thing. Is it a new razor? I'm going to guess it isn't. The cheapest new dovo razor I've seen was $65, but that wasn't a 3/8.

Pictures would be helpful to determine any potential damage. The problem with a 3/8 razor is that there isn't a lot of room to work on it if it is damaged.

If you bid on and won a shavette (replaceable blade) that's what you should have received. You could always return it. No return policies don't hold up when you receive the wrong item.

What I don't understand...why did you buy another shavette instead of just more blades? A back up?

The 3/8 is brand new. Never opened. The other replaceable isn't a shavette, but I really like the replaceable the Mrs. bought me so I thought I'd try another. I guess I'll have to learn to strop now.

Moderator notice: Sorry Fraser, your asking for a valuation of an item in the open forum and SRP does not allow that. Best to check completed auctions on ebay if you want a value. There are many things that go into the value of items and SRP chooses to stay out of that ring.

That little 3/8 is pretty tough to hone and not the easiest to shave with. I have found it to be more a barber tool than anything.

Yes these little ones like the 3/8s and 2/8s were intended more as trim pieces than anything else. That's why they usually go for lower prices as they have limited use.

I have a 2/8s mercur and there is no way I could shave with that. It's so small it's hard to hold and maneuver. It can easily get away from you and don't ask about trying to strop it correctly.
