Thread: Fixing a cracked blade

Hello all-
I recently got into straight razor shaving, and have been enjoying it thoroughly! This morning after shaving, I made my first mistake. While stropping, I loosened my grip on my razor and dropped it on the floor. I was lucky enough to not cut myself, but near the very front of the blade, a very small piece of it chipped off. I am not exactly sure what to do to fix it. It doesn't look big enough to need to be ground down (I don't have access to a grinder either.) I have a coticule and slurry stone as my only honing tools currently, as I only expected to sharpen an already good condition blade. Any suggestions? I can take some pictures as well if that will help. The chip does not go deep into the blade, but it definitely does need to be repaired. Thanks very much.

Is it visible to the naked eye, if so it will take a loooong time on the coticle. It may be time to send it out.

BTW: You mention chip and then a crack, which is it? Pics are always appreciated!

It is definitely visible, so I guess I will be sending it out for repair. Anyone you would recommend in particular?

place some pics, we can see what the damage is and then give you advice.

The only repair I know if is to remove the crack. If you don't have the tools send it to someone that does. Check the Member's services in the classifieds and PM the person/people from the main forums, the classifieds may be on a separate PM system but I am not sure of that since the software upgrades.

I am definitely aiming at removing the chip, but I am not sure the best way to go about doing that. Uploading some pictures shortly.

That'll buff out. Either send to someone, or get a 1k stone. You could do either one.. Folks will try to make it sound like it takes a razor surgeon to fix it, but the fact is if you rub it on a 1k it will shape back into a usable razor.
