Thread: Hart steel 7/8 razor

Hi all,
has anyone had any experience of hart steel razors??? I presume they must be quite popular with our american cousins?? look pretty solid and nice aswell.quite fancy getting one,any and all feedback appreciated.

Yes I own a 6/8" 1/4 grind Cocobolo scaled and I'm loving mine, its got a nice heavy feel to the tang and she came shave ready right out of the box.
You wont go wrong with one.

I've had the pleasure to hone and use a couple. I've enjoyed them. They take a really nice edge, and shave very comfortably.

I have heard from other members that some Hart's are better than others, but I've not heard the justifications for this claim....so really all I'm doing here is spreading a rumor....

If I had a bit of cash laying around....it'd be on my list, near the top. I say go for it...and then post pics so we can drool.

just noticed that there are couple of reviews on this maker,some like it alot and the other seems to be having problems with micro- chipping,maybe a faulty razor but not a good sign for a newcomer to market.

Remember though, that microchipping can be a result of improper honing. Spending too long on a high grit synthetic will do this to a blade.

Wacker's are prone to this at the high grit levels....but if you get a Wacker onto a natural and dial it in that way...man, what a shave!

I have a Hart Steel 7/8 square point and really like it I've never had any problems with it I got as a gift for Fathersday last year and it's just as sharp now as when I got it. I have 3 other Hart's that are 6/8 two square point and one round and plan on adding a 7/8 round point next week. All of one's I own I could shave with out of the box but for me it took a little while to learn the 7/8 after shaving with the 6/8 the only thing I have ever done to any of mine is touch them up with paste.

i've always used a 6/8 & fancied a change to try something new,tried a TI & didn't like it, so got rid as the point invariably at some point dug in, due to my inexperience,found the rounds far more forgiving,might be different now i,ve been using straights for a while.saw the hart on classic shaving and the satin finish looked great but had never heard of them.

Most of the reviews of Hart razors are a few years old now, back when they were starting up and working out the kinks. Last I heard, and someone who has honed the new ones can correct me, they have improved their steel and microchipping isn't an issue anymore.

Have a 6/8 square point. It holds edge well and has nice balance. Great everyday shaver. Would recommend to anybody.
