Thread: Replace the scales or leave it?

I found this Boker in an antique store in Austin earlier this week. The blade is in great shape (fair amount of patina but no rust at all), but the scales are ghetto to the max... But I kind of like them. Should I replace them or keep it the way it is?

They don't look original, so if you're up to it I'd say replace them. It'd look good in horn.

I guess I should have said that they're definitely not the original scales. They're hand-carved.

They do have kind of a "homemade" look to them. It's your call. If you like the scales you can always keep them for now while you make up your mind, since you can always replace them later. But if you decide that you're going to restore the blade as well then yeah, they gotta go!

heh I saw this razor last week over at uncommon objects. I would deff replace the scales or at least seal them. the wood on them will just drink up any water that they touch

I was in Austin for the TCEA convention and I had met my sister and brother-in-law for dinner at Guero's. After dinner we went to Uncommon Objects. This one was the only one they had that wasn't rusted.

i would replace those scales or that razor will rust very quick i would have snatched that up if i wasnt in the middle of a project already

Yeah, I had looked through all the straights that they had and I wasn't impressed with any of the blades. Then I saw that one with wooden scales that had falled out of the little basket they had all of the in. When I opened it up and saw that it was a Boker, I couldn't pay for it fast enough I'm watching videos on YouTube about making scales, and I may give it a shot with some Cocobolo.

did you manage to make your way down to off the wall? the have a rolls razor in great condition except for the stone is cracked in half but thats an easy repair or replace
