Thread: Number 7 Tri-angle IGeneva

Hi All,

On a recent trip to an antique store I came across a straight razor in one of the cabinets and had to have it, Straight razors are not that easy to find in south africa, I noticed that it had a stamp that said it was manufactured by the Geneva Cutlery Co. Geneva New York with a Pyramid with the number 7 inside. I have been trying to find out more about it but haven't been able to find much. If anyone could help with more info I would be grateful. I have cleaned it up and as soon as I can find someone who could Sharpen it I would love to start using it.

my experience with the exact model (7 in pyramid) is good quality steel that once honed properly delivers a very nice shave and holds an edge well. I think you know what to do.... get it honed asap enjoy and have fun.

Thanks no1slacker, that is some awesome info,, believe me as soon as I can find someone here who knows how to hone a straight I shall start using it right away.

That is a Geneva Pyramid, in my biased opinion it's an excellent quality American razor. Lots of threads available here in SRP about Geneva and Genco. It's likely to require a firm touch on the hones at first to get a good bevel. Pictures would go a ways in satisfying for our need for quality razor porn....

Gir, Geneva was Genco before it was Genco. Genco also bought up several other makers - Ontario and a couple others I always forget. The average Geneva/Ontario/Genco is a VERY good shaver. A particularly sweet one will stand w/ any blade on the planet.

They tend to be somewhat pedestrian looking - not adorned much. But the shave will just make you cry.

Thanks for the info guys I have since gone through the threads and I have learned a bit about them. I feel even happier about my find with this little beauty. @Stimpy I will be posting pics after the weekend as soon as my camera is working again. I will say that it still needs a bit of cleaning as there are quite a couple of light sanding marks, so I will have to get finer sandpaper something in the 2000 and above grit. @ Pinklather. I was surprised to find the age of the blade as the it is almost mirror condition, there was hardly any dirt on the blade. The scales still seem in good nick but as you say plain. I look forward to shaving with it as soon as I can get it honed.

Genco's are very underrated, can be bought for not much money, and are great shavers. As for not being eye candy, the Genco Easy Aces looks great to me. Best, John
