Post Week of December 19 SOTD - Sunday

    MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS

    Pre-Shave: Nice, long, hot shower
Razor: 13/16" Tokyo Coral, 3/4 Hollow, Spike Point
    Brush: 24mm Custom, 2-band Shavemac D01
Überlather: Tabac Shave Creme + Tabac Shave Soap + Glycerin
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
    After Shave Splash: Tabac AS
    Cologne: Tabac EDC
The Hardware: Today is a special SOTD, which deserves a special shave with special gear. Gear #1 (The razor): I recently got this NOS Coral and honed it up using my routine 1k, Coti and JNat progression with amazing results. The blade has an interesting history (according to the historical papers that came with it, translated by JimR). This beauty was made on July 18, 1966 (a very special year ), inspected by Matsuoka-san of Takagi Riki Co. in Tokyo. The steel is Japanese, made from Iron sand - probably the third tier of steel, after the High grade Tamahagane (玉 鋼:たまはがね) and then the low grade Tamahagane (making this something similar to Hitachi Blue Paper)...very tough steel, but prone to oxidation (which was apparent on the blade and which I cleaned up). Gear #2 (The brush): I ordered this 2-Band custom D01 ~2 months ago and recently got it from Bernd ~2 weeks ago. Today, she is making her debut alongside the Coral. This brush is 24mm in size with 48mm loft size (2mm longer than standard). Handle is Bruyère wood with a nickel base. She definitely has a tougher backbone than any of my current 3-band Shavemacs. I love this brush. She is a great addition to the collection. The tough backbone combined with the extra soft tips make for an amazing experience in lathering/prepping. One can think of it this way: If the 3-band is a "luxurious" car, then the 2-band would be the high end "sports" car.
The Software: The Tabac needs no introduction to this audience. What can be said about it that hasn't already been said, inferred or experienced?
Results: To make a long story short, the D01/Coral combo was an absolute delight to use and start this week's special SOTD for me. The Coral delivered an exceedingly smooth and out of this world shave today. I hardly felt the whiskers whipped away. I can easily envision her becoming one of my top 5 shavers. Now, I am ready for a brunch that my wife and I are hosting for some very close friends.

Thanks Robert. I updated with a different Link of something similar. If you ever get the chance to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra live, don't pass it up. A truly amazing experience (tremendous musicians, excellent theatrics, etc).

Wow, nice shot and very nice razor! I´ve been thinking of those two banded D001, looks lovely and seems like a good brush!

    Default Sunday Shave!

    Simpsons 57 | L'Occitane Cade Soap | Wacker Stosser Mod. 4 | Alum | Institut Karite Balm | L'Occitane Vetyver

This was my first go with the Cade soap and I was very impressed. I can honestly say that this is the best scent I have ever smelled in a soap. The lather was slick and thick and there was enough for about 10 passes. It also left my skin nice and moisturized after which is important to me in these Winter months.

Excellent shots already everyone! Here is one big THANK YOU for the effort!
