Thread: Finger Mishaps

This weekend I was changing a blade in my feather and not really paying attention and grabbed the blade by the edge. Luckily it didn't penetrate too far into my finger-Har har.

I'm just curious how you do your manipulations to change blades and if you have such mishaps too. I'm not really talking about the types like the Fatboys since they are way easier but the three piece razors like the feather.

What I do is assemble the top 3 pieces, holding the ends. Hold the top upside down, slide the razor over it, then the bottom... screw it in, and I'm done. My fingers never really go near the cutting edge

the part that i always have a hard time with is unwrapping the blade..

Luckily, no mishaps yet when either shaving or handling DE blades. I always handle the blades by the ends, even when unwrapping them.

I always grab DE razors by the ends. I find it's helpful to hold the razor down with one hand and unwrap with the other. The only mishap I've had with a DE razor was the first time I ever held one. I was so intrigued by how flexible they were I bent it so far it snapped in half in my hand and cut me a little bit. That was more than a little embarassing!

That's what I do.

In fact, when I'm screwing/unscrewing three piece razors, I always brace the guard against the sink and twist the handle, without touching the head at all, to avoid any edges.

I'm a big sissy when it comes to cutting my fingers, so I might be overly cautious.

I just avoid grabbing the cutting edge of the blade.

In addition, I hold the top in my left hand, so that I'm handling the end of the razor blade with my dominant hand--better coordination, thus less chance of slicing my finger off.
