Thread: A question about dispose those used DE blades

Hi, I have retired my first DE blade today. I was wondering if it is
safe just to throw it in the garbage can. How do you guys do with those? I was thinking maybe I should put all those in a metal can (like dog food somethings) and throw the whole can away when it is full of those sharp craps.

There are many ways to dispose of used double edge razor blades safely.

Try a screw-top metal can, and when you fill it up with used blades, screw the lid on tightly and dispose of the can. Or find another secure container for your purpose: coffee can, and so on, as long as you can secure the blades.

Many vendors also carry a razor blade coffin that resembles a small piggy bank. I use those and they work just fine. I think they cost about $1.

Do not throw the single used blades in the garbage. They could injure the sanitation worker removing the garbage.

There's usually a small slit on the underside of a DE blade dispenser. This is used for storing used blades then you can throw away the whole container instead of one blade at a time.

Lot of folks use old coin banks. You can find them cheap and they hold a lot.

I use a small tin such as you might get tea in. Glue on the top and punch a slot in it with a stout kitchen knife. It will hold quite a few.

Or, if you live in an older house, look in the back of your medicine cabinet. If there is a slot there, that is what it is for.

I use a small rectangular vaseline jar. It's long enuf to hold personna ridgid back blades for my shavette.

I either use the little plastic case the blades come in to accumulate them or if they just come in papr boxes I wrap the blades in the wrapper from the new blades and throw them away. In most parts of the country Sanitation trucks have automated systems and no person ever touches a garbage receptacle.

Besides, they're over paid Govt workers with too many fringe benefits right?

Even a pop can will work in a pinch. Not very couth, but effective.
