Congrats! The workmanship on those razors is supposed to be impeccable. A few of our members have reported their enthusiasm for this razor.

Let us know how she shaves.

Well as you say the workmanship is faultless and it shaves like it's on auto pilot most of the time, doesn't like any other blades only feather blades, it's expensive but as far as i'm concerned it sets the benchmark in DE safety razors I love this razor, but my Merkur 34C-HD is a fine shaver, but not in the same league as the Feather AS-D1.

    Cheers Jamie.

Interesting, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Of course Feather blades aren't the cheapest around either....

What other blades have you tried in the Feather?

Well Ryan the few i've tried like one of my favourites I like to use in my Merkur the Gillette super thin simple doesn't fit in the Feather razor, so I just stick with a Feather blade, but I do like the Feather blade so that's not a problem.

    Cheers Jamie.

I've used several in mine with no problem. I think the feather works best no doubt about that. I've used the German Wilkinson and the Iridiums and the mercurs too.

Congrats on a fine De razor.
I use one of these for my daily head-shave, and it does the job effortlessly.
I use one of 4 types of blades in it.
Feather, Israeli Personna, Yellow Gillette 7'O clock's or Astra Platinum.

    Hello, Jamie:

Thank you for sharing the pictures. That, indeed, is a remarkable razor in every way, from workmanship to balance to shave. I love mine.

The Feather stainless steel razor and feather blades are a perfect match. To my knowledge the razor was designed to be used with the Feather blades.

In my experience, however, the razor also works quite well with Super Iridium and Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge "yellow packs." Those are the only blades I use in it.

I also have a variety of vintage Gillettes as well as Merkurs and Edwin Jaggers. The Feather, I admit, is in its own class. You've made a good choice, my good man.

    Regards,

    Obie

Yes, the Feather stainless steel is pricey, but I believe it's worth every cent.

I have had a Feather AS for a while now, and can corroborate Jamie's observation that the only blades that seem to work in it are the Feather blades.

I've tried Super Iridium, Gillette yellow's, Permasharp, Derby, Astra SP, Shark, etc. - they were all sub-standard. I get the feeling that the Feather AS was designed to work with the super-sharp Feathe blades and nothing else.

Some people may desctibe this razor as mild, and it does seem like you're never in any danger of nicking yourself, but I always seem to get excellent shaves from it (even though I usually prefer very aggressive razors).

Money well spent, in my experience.

EDIT: I just noticed Obie's post above. Shaving being such a personal experience, I'm not surprised that we had different experiences. The blades Obie mentioned are among the sharpest out there, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also work well. I just happen to have tried the Feather blades first, and have found that even the SI's or the Gillette yellows don't match up (for me, anyway).
