Default Ok guys, a little advice?

I just got a 40s Gilette Super Speed. I've gone str8 but wanted a backup for when I have to do either a quicker shave or really tight spot touchups. I have a very tough beard that can destroy even the best carts in 3-4 shaves, and an electric could never even try to work on it.

Can anyone suggest a DE blade for me to give a try starting out with it?

    Thanks!

I personally like Red Pack Personnas. You can get sampler packs online. One vendor that does this is West Coast Shaving. I would recommend getting a sampler pack and try several different brands to find your preference.

Those old Gillette superspeeds are well made, and give some nice shaves. The sample packs are great, they allow you to fine tune your razor, and find a blade that is ideal for your needs, and budget

If you're new to Safety razors, I whole-heartedly recommend Personnas. They're very smooth. Others have had luck with Astras and Derby's, and you can't go wrong with Gillettes in my book, either. I haven't tried Feathers yet; they're supposed to be very good, but better for the mre advanced shaver.

A blade sampler pack would likely go very far for you as well. It'll give you a chance to try many blades, and find what should work best.

If you want sharp, sharp just go directly to the feathers.

If your new to d/e a sample pack is the right choice. Blades are a total YMMV subject. In blades, one man's trash is another's treasure.
