Thumbs up Mühle Rasiercreme "Sandelholz" (sandalwood shaving cream)

Sandalwood. You either love it, or hate it. Personally, I like it. The wife hates it ("You can use that when you're 30 years older."). But I digress.

The guys at The Different Scent kindly gave me this cream as we do not have too many reviews of sandalwood scented shaving products in here, yet. Thanks, guys!

So we are now looking at another fine piece of German shaving craftsmanship (according to unsubstantiated rumours, the cream is manufactured by Klar Seifen GmbH, founded in 1840).

Packaging: Nice. I like the colours (medium grey with subtle dark red), and the cardboard box is also well done. The tub itself has the same grey/red colour, and feels every bit as flimsy as, say, a GFT tub. Nothing to write home about, but functional.

Texture: Less fluffy, and soft, than the Sanddorn (sea buckthorn) cream I recently reviewed. Worked nicely out of the box, as a good cream should.

Scent: Mühle themselves advertise their product as follows:
Sandalwood – warm & sensual. With fine fragrance notes of coriander and star anise: sandalwood cream. Essential oils nourish and pamper the skin and the senses.
I could not have said it better myself. I really like Mühle's interpretation of sandalwood.

Latherability: Nothing to complain about. Up there with the very good ones.

Cushion: Excellent. I again used the cream without a preshave for testing purposes, and the cushion it provided still worked well enough.

Moisturising: Outstanding, but little wonder given the cream's ingredients. I skipped the aftershave in favour of Dr. Hauschka facial tonic and skin oil, and yet my face still felt great some hours later. There is a matching aftershave balm, though.

Price: Less than AOS, or Castle Forbes, but not quite inexpensive. Still, you will get good value for your money.

Overall impression: I like this cream a lot, based mainly on scent and moisturising. The lather is good, as is the cushion it provides. In any event, Mühle's Rasiercreme Sandelholz is an interesting alternative to more traditional products, and the tub will look good in a modern bathroom.
