Default CarrieM's Bay Rum Shave Cream

Packaging: Karen sent me the cream in a small, dark screw-lidded jar. She has nice block handwriting and affixed an appropriately sized label on the side. Easy to store, easy to use, and easy to read. She also sent a popsicle stick for easy cream extraction. Perfect :)

Texture: The cream is somewhat hard. So for face lathering this cream, the popsicle stick comes in handy not only as an extractor but also as an applicator. For mug lathering, it seems to work more quickly if I press the dab of cream out flat with my finger before I start mixing with the brush.

The texture of the lather is somewhat dense

Scent: The bay rum scent is a homemade recipe by Karen and is wonderful. She definitely knows what she's doing with the scent

Latherability: The cream is not too picky about how much water it needs in order to build an effective lather. Once you get past the hardness of the cream itself, the lather works up very nicely. A brush with a strong backbone makes it even easier

Cushion: The cream provides a good cushion. But the glide falls a little short of what some slicker soaps will provide, although it is still a good glide for a cream.

Moisturising: My face does not feel dry after shaving with this. It is a good moisturizer which does not leave my face feeling like it needs anything else afterward.

Price: I'm not sure what she is charging right now so I think I will leave this field blank

Overall impression: Using CarrieM's cream is fun! This is a really good face-lathering cream. Not every cream has the consistency needed to be able to get worked into whiskers so thoroughly. Hoglahoo recommends you give this a try if you have not already.

    Thumbs up

Got the same sample, but did not previously write a review, because CarrieM said the cream was still work in progress. I'm not overly fond of the texture, which is more of a soap than a cream. The cream really shines in two areas: scent (didn't think I would like bay rum, but this one is really nice), and moisturising. It's surprisingly good in this respect.

Same for CarrieM's other creams. I especially liked the sandalwood. Very nicely scented.

I've recently bought two tubs of CarrieM's creams. They are exceptionally thick, almost soap-like, and are a bit of work to lather, but will lather with a wide variety in dKh and amount of water. The scent is out of this world, the cushion is good, and I find them to be very slick. For the price, this can't be beat.
