When I first started shaving I used creams. Tabac is the first soap I've used.

What can I say. I love it. I get the closest shave with it. It lathers up really easily.

    Thumbs up

I hope the ratings will more concisely reflect my opinion of Tabac than the review below can. As usual, my thoughts are prejudiced by my personal preferences, so take them for what they are :p Slartiwharrgarble generously let me have some of his Tabac a few weeks ago, so I have a couple of dozen uses with it so far. It certainly gets the job done, if not quite as richly as the premium soaps and creams

Packaging: I have never used the Tabac packaging so I can't really rate that.

Texture: This category is not really as weighty a variable as it was for me when I first started shaving with straight razors. I guess I don't really care as much what the texture is as long as the lather does not degrade in quality during my shave. But to describe the texture, I can say it is soapy :) I know, shocking.

Latherability: I have only lathered Tabac directly on my face. Once in awhile I will start out with too much water on my face and the lather is too thin, but other than that I have no trouble whipping up a good lather in 40 or 50 strokes of the brush

Cushion: The lather offers good glide and protection, and does not lose either of those qualities during the shave. Maybe it's just the way I shave, but I feel that this soap excels in protecting the skin from the razor

Moisturizing: Not bad, but not stellar either. It doesn't dry my skin out like a bath soap or a low quality shave soap, but it doesn't really leave me face feeling baby soft like some other great products have done for me.

Price: I have seen very low prices for Tabac. If I had paid $5 for a tub of this, I would rate it at 9 or 10. For its level of performance, I think Tabac generally sells for less than its worth. But I did not buy it, so no rating from me here
