Cyril R Salter "Indian Sandalwood" Shaving Cream
Hello, and welcome to part 2 of our new daily soap Robin's Great Sandalwood Shoot-Out. Yesterday's product was http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html, and it was good.
Packaging: Salter products come in blue tubs with white lettering. The lid is very light, and does not open as easily as it should. But at least it is airtight, as testified by the fact that the one year old jar from which my sample originated still contained usable cream. The plastic feels thin, and tacky, overall. Like in the lime shoot-out, the Salter jar will have the lowest scores of all creams tested.
Texture: Stickier than I like it (I prefer fluffy textures like Mühle/Jagger). Loading brushes of various stiffness is still easy enough.
Scent: In theory, sandalwood should have a rich, sweet, fragrant yet delicate, woody, floral scent. Those characteristics are all there. But why is there a dominant menthol scent? The wife's comment was, 'smells like old men.' I did not ask for details, but all I can say is that I did not like the scent one bit.
Latherability: Perfectly acceptable, ie you get nice looking, creamy lather. However, if you give that lather more than a few minutes, it will dry up. Too quickly for my personal liking, so this cream does not get a good rating for this feature, either.
Cushion: The cushion is sub par, as the glide. Once the lather starts drying up, which it does too quickly, it gets sticky.
Moisturising: A complete failure. This is the first cream that dried out my skin while I was shaving. Yes, you heard correctly: I shaved, and the patch of skin I was trying to use for stretching was dry. And I do not mean 'no lather', but 'dry as dust'. Amazing, but not desirable.
Price: For me, the complete lack of moisturising makes this cream a non starter. The going rate seems to be approx USD 15 for 165g.
Overall impression: I do not like the scent. The lather is sub par. And the moisturising... If I should ever pick mummifying as a hobby, this cream will be on top of my list of equipment. Clearly not recommended.

I tried a sample of the Salter "Sublime Citrus", and your review is spot-on.
Dries very quickly, not the best glide at all.
The scent is very weak when you have finished lathering.
