    Angry Ugggh

This stuff is bad, I think one reviewer is correct about using it as a shower soap.
I tried the Bay Rum this evening, first time I have veered off the MamaBear path. Like my daddy used to say you just think the grass is greener. I'm a relative newbie to straights but have played with brushes and soaps on and off. I am just getting back into it and I must say MamaBears for the money is the real deal. I also have the Amber and to be fair I will try that tomorrow. I found the Bay Rum very short on lathering and keeping it on your face. Oh well live and learn.

Never had a problem with the Col. But then, I don't have a problem substituting regular bath soap for it when I run out. I like it enough I just ordered another dozen pucks, about a year or two supply for me. I like the cold process soaps cause if they don't fit your mug (too loose or too tight) you can put it in the microwave (in the mug) on high for about 30 seconds and it will melt to form fit the mug; takes about 10-15 mins to resolidify. A little over 5 bucks a bar compared to 15-30 for the triple milled soaps? If they last 3 times longer, maybe.

    Default Bathing soap--good idea

I hadn't thought of using it as a plain old bathing soap. That's better than tossing it. I like the smell of the bay rum soap but that's the only reason I haven't tossed it yet. Anemic, short-lived lather. Unremarkable lubricity. Maybe with different water it'd be better, but all my other soaps play nice with my tap water.

    Thanks for the idea, Aznaod7.

    Talking Col. Conk conked out

Even in the shower it doesn't lather like good old Dial. But you're right about the aroma, I shower with it, then use Mama Bears Bay Rum and Pinaud Bay Rum aftershave. My wife always comes in at some point and says "something smells good" and I agree that it isn't the water, I get superb lather from my Mama Bears.

Why are you guys only getting two months out of a puck? Are you attacking the puck with the brush? I shave about twice a week and just opened a conk bay rum. With twelve shaves on this puck, almost two months, I've bearly dented the puck. Am I lathering wrong?.....

I've used Col. Conk Almond for several years. Granted, I'm new to straight razors, but I've been wet shaving with a Mach 3 for probably 12 years or so. I started using Conk soap when I could no longer get Aramis shave soap locally. I've probably been using it for about seven or eight years, now. It works fine for me.

What I can't figure out is why they put those silly hair handles on the brushes!

I'm fairly new to straight shaving and soap pucks. That being said I really like the Col. Conk Amber that I have so far. I haven't tried any other scents from Col. Conk and hear that all but the Bay Rum are pretty worthless.

Scent: Amber - very nice, very delicate clean scent. If you want a strong scent I would suggest something different, but for a light scent this one is great.
Lather: Moderate - it provides what I would consider a decent, but not spectacular lather. That being said it works fine, I have no real problems with the lather.
Irritation: Excellent - I find this to be a very good soap in regards to irritation. It has great cushion and my razor seems to just glide right over it with little direct contact with my skin.

I did find that the lather did tend to dry out relatively quickly, to accomodate this I simply lather my face in sections, or relather any dried out areas.

I have also tried MWF, which provides a better lather but doesn't seem to protect my skin as well, making me lean more towards the Col. Conk soaps.

Since I do have a puck of each however, I did decide to go ahead and simply shread the two soaps together which seems to work pretty well. I now get a better lather, and while still not as gentle as straight Col. Conks it is much better than the protection offered just by using MWF.

Not sure what new soaps to try next, I may try Mama Bears as I hear a lot of good things about them, but most of that seems to be scent related and not quality shave related, so not sure quite how to take the feedback on Mama Bear Soaps.
