    Thumbs up Palmolive Shave Stick

I can't believe no one has posted at least something about this wonderful stick. I can't believe something so small and expensive - haaaa!!!! only kidding - can produce so much lather out of nowhere!! A tallow and Palm extract-based soap, the Palmolive shave stick is by no means one to be taken for granted.

Price - Let me start by saying this thing is free. 48p* at my local Asda (read Wal Mart) store and one user saying that it was on offer for 22p at Tesco at a time, is just dirt cheap (or near enough free). If there was something higher than a 10 to grade this on price, I would. I think a 10/10 doesn't do it justice!! Work out the cost per shave from that and you could be taking very small numbers...
(* at the time of writing)

Moisturising and Lather - The lather from the Palmolive is on a par with the big ones, like Tabac and other tallow-rich goodies. As it's a stick, you just touch it in water, dab it on your face a couple of times and apply a wet brush to it. BOOM!!! Lather slipping all over the place. Easily enough for three - four passes. And this is thick, creamy, tallow-based lather (note that I'm referring to the European version of this soap for this entire review). After the shave, face feels very spongy and smooth.

The packaging is basic, but who cares? It's so cheap and easy to carry, why would you bother with a funky case or tube to have this in? The plastic stand it comes on is good from keeping it try underneath, but obviously it's no bowl. Nonetheless, I've scored this a neutral '5' for packaging.

Its size is superb for travel, bar none. Take it with you for short trips where space is limited, or maybe even take a few as spare on longer trips. Forgot it in the hotel? No problem! Just grab another! At this price, every keen wet shaver should have at least tried this soap or perhaps they should have a couple in their wash bag.

I've currently got a mug with a couple of these lightly soaked and pressed in for when I'm shaving at home.

As with all soaps I've reviewed, I like to conclude with a quick comment on what aftershave goes well with it. Well, I've used it with various after shave balms (Korres Marigold) and lotions (Lotion Opaline, SMN Melograno). My favourite though is Roger & Gallet's L' Homme After Shave Balm. It really matches the Palmolive's soapy and clean, green scent.

I have no hesitation in recommending this soap with this high score. Try it - you shouldn't be without one!

I recently picked up a few sticks. Since I'm in the US, it's not quite as cheap, but I did get two for ~$6. I wasn't expecting much from it, I just wanted something that made a half decent lather and was portable. After a few shaves, I can say that I'm pretty impressed.

The lather whips up quickly and easily makes enough for a few passes. I enjoy the scent, it's very slightly medicinal, with some herbal and maybe citrus tones. My wife isn't as fond of it, she says that it makes me smell like an old man.

All in all, this is a great shave stick and even when you get them in the US, the price is pretty attractive.
