    Default Nick Relief

I don't know about you guys, but occasionally I still get a little nick here and there when shaving (Mainly from honing and testing so many razors.....). Every time I do, that little nick will turn into a little bump on my face and I have to watch that spot for a couple days. I have found that by using the alum or styptic that the little bleeding stops right away and after I am done shaving, I apply a little triple anti-biotic ointment to the area and the healing is much quicker. Normally within a day or so, the bump is gone and I'm good as new.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Sometimes, when I'm either too aggressive or in a hurry, I get little bumps the the left and right of where a soul patch would be if I had one, and then on the next shave it's easy to nick those bumps. I've had good luck just doing a really cold water rinse followed immediately by the triple antibiotic. I've had great results from that, too. I don't remember the last time I used a styptic pencil, now that I've gotten on the triple antibiotic thing.

Good thought bringing up the triple antiboitic.

May be a bit over the top, but it works extremely well for me: http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ka-anyone.html. That, and of course, my industrial strength alum rock...

After rinsing the area, I will apply some rubbing alcohol, and then some triple anti-biotic ointment.

    Thumbs up

Good advice Lynn, same as what I give. Most people think that letting wounds dry and scab up makes them heal faster. Instead clinical tests show that wounds kept moist with antibiotic ointment or even plain Vaseline heal faster.

Default Great Advice, but alum doesn't alway's work!!

I think the alum block IS a great part of the shaving routine, Mine is to use a styptick pencil on the somtimes many nicks I get while shaving[middle age acne is my bugaboo!!] then very cold water followed by some warm water on the alum block then applied to my face, I clean up the work area a bit[Keeps the Sig/other much happier that way] then I wash off the alum film the block leaves on my face and use witch hazel followed by a good splash of bayrum or other Pinaud product[flavor]. The only this gets my bloody goat is that a lot of the time the alum stick[pencil] won't stop the bleeding very well!! To clearify, i'm not a bleeder by diagnosis, and the nicks don't APEAR to by very deep, this does vex my a bit, but I plough through. Sometimes I think its a combination of trying to shave with a Str8 over my acne bumps AND my forgeting to keep a loose but controling grip on the razor handle. And yes after all the shaving routine is followed and done with I do use a triple/antibiotic with vitamin E as healing agents. Thank you Lynn A. and everyone on the site for all the great info, I spend more time on SRP then in my AOL site!! [is that common??, hope so!]

To all of you, have a Great/G'Day!!

    As allways, tinkersd of SRP!

I use the Alum block after every shave. Irritation, cut, nick , redness or not. It really helps keep the skin feeling smooth and healthy.
