I'm not sure if it's my joy of using old tools, the sport of it or too much time on my hands. Probably a combination of the three.

I Shave with a straight razor because its the only real way to shave, before I didnt shave, I used hair clippers without a gaurd and wore "designer Stubble" now I have an art that I get to practice everyday, the learning curve never seems to end, I can take pride in honing stropping and preparing my Razor, I can take pleasure in what is to most a chore, it is a self pampering ritual thats macho, my wife loves the feel of my face after I shave and hey, we all know how cool it is, its tradition mixed with a little mystic.
And 1 of the coolest things about it is, unless you do it you would not even begin to understand the reasons for it, its a very zen thing!

I started using a straight twenty years ago because I thought it looked cool. Once I started though, I found the zen of shaving.
I have a hard time focusing (Read A.D.D.) and using a straight requires me to concentrate fully on all aspects of what I am doing. It creates an inner peace that can only be accomplished by meditation, deep prayer or vallium.
Oh yeah, My teenage nephews think I am a baddass for using a straght. Admiration by the next generation is not too common. They have asked about using a straight but I keep telling them they are not quite ready which builds even more mystique around the magical strop and blade.

I used to despise shaving and avoided the painful drudgery of it as much as my dignity could afford to. My morning ritual with the Wade and Butcher is the alchemy that turned something I hated into something I love. No matter how you slice it, the straight razor has made me a better person.

Maker of the BS
I really believe that I was somehow tricked into it because I really cant remember why I started searching for a straight razor I was just doing it one day.
