    Default TAOS Barder

I have been to a few The Art of Shaving shops and i noticed that they have a barber in the back that is said to do an old fashioned haircut and SR shave. Has anyone had an experience with this? I noticed that it is pricey, but what isn't at TAOS.

My guess is they are using a disposable blade like a shavette.

Its kind of like going into a Japanese Restaurant. Its more about the show of cooking at the table than the quality of the food. Very often its more about the hot towels and aftershaves than the actual shave.

I'v never been to these shops. I know my local barber uses something like a shavette. I don't think its right though, I think barbers should use good ol' straights. My dad has gotten shaved with a real straight at barbers.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Health Dept. stopped barbers from using SR years ago.

You might want to check to see if you can bring your own SR to use. I checked with the owner of the barber shop where I get my hair cut and he had no problems with me bringing my own stuff (razor, strop, soap, brush). I do have to admit that, although the shave was good, mine are just as good or better.

Back when I was just a boy (46 yrs. ago) it was common for our barber to use the electric clippers on the back of our necks to get the fuzz off, then just as regular as daylight, he would pull out the straight, lather us kids up (back of neck only) shave it smooth then finish it off with a liberal pat of "Wild Root". Felt about 3" taller when we would leave.

Glad I had those early experiences such as they were. Can't hardly find a barber that gives anything more than haircut anymore...I would pay good money for a "Real Barbers Shave", if nothing more than to just have the memory of it!
