Thread: How to shave under nose with wide razor?

I just got this razor and shaved with it for for the first time. Left me nice and smooth with no blood, but I didn't shave my entire mustache. My other razors are more narrow and I just put it against my nose and flick/scoop it outward. This was much wider and felt like it pulled a lot more so I stopped there.

Try with just the point of the razor. Shave from the center just under the nostril outward towards the corner of the mouth following the contour of the upper lip. It helps to hold the end of the nose and bend the tip away from the side you are shaving. This not only gets the tip of your nose out of the way, but it also stretches the skin of the upper lip. I even insert the very tip of the point slightly into my nostril. If done carefully this will get any growth just inside the outter nostril, just be careful. The only part of the upper lip you might shave from the nose downward is the very center groove. For that try lifting the tip of the nose upward while curling the upper lip over the upper teeth.

I do it sort of the opposite of what Scott (honedright) said. My mustache is wider at the nose than at the corner of my mouth though. I feel I have better control by coming at it with the tip going in toward the nostril, the heel toward the conner of my mouth. Carefully and with a sure enough sharp razor I might add. Whether it is Scott's way or my way, something you figure out in between, you have to kind of find what works comfortably for you and practice it.

I was at first intimidated by larger blades when shaving the upper lip, but have found that blade width makes little difference. If I'm going down vertically with the blade against the nose, any additional blade width just sticks farther up past the nose and makes no difference. There can be a difference in blade weight, however, and heavier blades must be used with care.

I use all razors the same when shaving under the nose.
I quite simply grab my nose and pull it inwards/upwards enough to make room
The pulling upwards tend to stretch and lift my upper lip outwards.

You shouldn't have to significantly alter your technique when using a larger razor, but I do find it helps to lift up your nose to "get in there" a little better, and also reduces the angle that you have to use. On the other hand, if you're getting some pulling on the upper lip are you sure your blade is sharp enough?
