Thread: Razor Skipping.....

So recently i have noticed my razors "skipping" a bit as i make a pass. there have been no cuts or nicks but i know this is not how it should be since i feel they are resulting in irritation. I am wondering if the skipping, which happens most during my first pass is from either the Pre-Shave Oil, the lather being to dry, a dull blade or just bad technique. thanks for the advice

If your face is dry the blade can very well skip and if the edge is off skipping and pulling are usually the result. I would watch the lather first and see what happens. If the lather is right then you can look at the edge. Sometimes poor shaving technique can cause that too.

Could the Pre-Shave oil, i use AoS Lavender, be perpetuating the problem? The lather seems good, doesn't seem to be drying out and it has happened right after applying the lather so im not sure the lather is really the issue.

Make sure you keeping the skin pulled properly. I had noticed skipping
On my neck area and realized I was pulling the skin taught. Started pulling the skin taught and no more skipping.

As long as the skin is lubed whether it's from soap or oil there should not be any skipping if it is due to a dry skin. If you are using the oil your problem is probably not from the skin being dry. I would look elsewhere with technique or the razor itself.

I would also say , the blade needs a touch up . Pasted strop or finish hone should fix it .

I usually notice skipping if I get lax and don't keep the skin stretched tight. It is most likely to happen if the blade angle is also too high.
