Thread: Is It Possible To Air Travel With Any Sort Of Razor

I recently had to travel from Rochester, New York to Tampa, Fla. Like many people I travel with my belongings in the cabin overhead space, so I didn't even bother taking a razor. I took a brush and some soap and used one of my brothers razors in Tampa. I know my straight would throw security into fit's but what about a DE? Anyone have experience here?

As long as you're not bringing the blades with you, you should have no problem bringing a DE in your carry on.

Best thing to do is to pack your razor in your checked luggage. Most guys who insist on travelling with a straight do this with good results, but I would even recommend it for DE razors as well. DE blades are a definite no-no for carry-on, but why take the chance with the razor? The last thing you want is for a security officer to arbitrarily confiscate your DE while you protest "but it doesn't even have a blade in it!".....

Remember, they can do pretty much whatever they want.

You could also mail things ahead or figure out a place where you're going to buy some DE blades.

I agree with Ryan. When I travel by air, like last month, my de razor and blades were stored in my shaving kit that was packed in my checked luggage.

Yet another reason that I hate to travel on airlines these days.

I'm in the aviation industry and you definitely need to check it. No other way around it unless you get lucky. If you have a really bad day with a razor in your carry on luggage, you could end up on a lovely TSA list that will haunt you forever. I don't recommend it. LOL

I carry a straight or two in checked luggage everywhere I go.....just not my good ones.....

Everyone already answered that you can check straights and carry-on DEs without blades. Just want to add that CVS sells DE blades and there's bound to be one near your location if it's a domestic flight.

Not quite that extreme, but getting there. A few years back, when my Grandma was still able to fly, security confiscated a pair of nail clippers from her that belonged to her mother. Can't be too careful with those octogenarians with deadly nail clippers....
