    Default First Wapi Shave

Been shaving with a straight for about 6 months now with my grandfathers razors and decided to pick up a Wapi. Bought it off of a member at a great price (thanks again). Honed it up and it gives a wonderful shave. Seems smoother than the vintage razors I have been using, but I am using the same hones and technique. Is the blade on a Wapi stainless steel? Just wondering why the Wapi feels so much smoother.

There were a few kinds. Pic is perfect otherwise width, tip, scales.. I've got a 5/8th french tip that came with stainless scales. I thought they were just carbon steel.

Wapi's are another of those controversial razors. Some get good ones, so get some not so good. I guess got lucky...as did I. The steel feels a bit like Sheffield steel to me honing & shaving...

    Stainless scales & carbon blade.
They are a 1/4 grind so the illusion of smoothness may come from their forgiveness of angles & pressure that hollows won't tolerate..
As shooter said they can be a bit of a lucky dip.

I think some of the later made ones may have been more hollow ?

Measures between 5/8" and 11/16" wide with a french tip. I am just not a good judge or grind though.
    Nice shaver either way.

Seems the stainless scaled ones are a 1/4 grind : Difference between Wapi and Wapi2
