Thread: Right Handed Shaver Question

I am a right handed shaver that can shave with the left hand but I don't. I'm comfortable with using my right for the razor and my left to stretch. How I learned to shave with the left was by listening to a post by member Danny Wonderful. He suggested practicing the strokes using the left hand holding the razor while in front of the computer, watching TV or whatever. I began doing that with a dull razor and my dexterity with left hand increased quickly.

I've done it both ways, and didn't notice any difference. TBH once I got my technique down better I was pretty much able to eliminate XTG. Since I now sport a mustache and goatee I do go XTG from the beard toward the back of my jaw just along the jaw line, but that's it. The rest is WTG and ATG.

I hope you'll persevere with learning to use your left hand. It was weird and scarey to me at first, but after a couple of weeks, it felt normal.

Occasionally, I find that I do better on the parts of my face I shave with my left hand than my right hand (I'm right-handed). I put this down to the off-hand being weaker, and a greater amount of concentration required to control it, which translates into less "pushing" the razor through if it's not quite as sharp as it should be or the angle's not quite right, and better awareness of the angle of attack. It's easy to get, I don't know if this is the right word here, complacent? about your technique with your dominant hand. I don't know though, because about as often I do as good or worse with my left than I do with my right. I've cut and burned myself with both hands, but I do know the worst cuts and burns have come from the stuff I do with my dominant hand.

I'm finally using both hands now thanks to Lynn's suggestion, but sometimes I still feel more comfortable at this early stage using my right hand on the left side. Still, I'm planning to gain more prowess with my left hand over there.

I am right handed and, at first, it was difficult but eventually you will do well with it. When I started I could almost not hold a pencil in my left hand. I actually went though a period where my left hand did better than my right using a straight. It took a good 9 months where it did not matter anymore.

Lol, this made me laugh, maybe because I'm at the end of a 12-hour night shift, but I imagine you eyeing your left very suspiciously during the shave, "don't you dare move"

My brother-in-law is right handed only. He's a noob like me so has not been doing very well on the left side of his face.

I told him to start drinking beer with his left hand only to start getting it in training.

I figured that was something that he does a lot.
