Thread: A couple of "new" razors

Hi All!

I thought I would post some pics of my recent acquisitions. The first razor was up in my beginner thread before it was pulled during the GD razor thread purge. I found it for a total of $6 on eBay, shipping included, and intend to use it as a set of training wheels for honing.




As I understand it, the razor is dated somewhere between 1890 and 1938, when the Nazis shut the company down. It's got some definite pitting, and scratches on the scales. There is also just a touch of uneven hone wear on the toe, but nothing I'm too worried about. A good project razor, IMO.

Then, just this afternoon, I missed the earlier bus coming home from work, and had a few minutes to kill. I popped into an antique shop that was having a closeout sale, and picked this razor up for $15.


Based on the wiki, I'm pegging this one around 1920 or so. Anyone with more info is welcome to let me know. The razor is in great condition, with some hone wear on the spine, and some really limited pitting and spotting.
The scales are cracked at the pivot pin, and the blade closes JUST off-center because of it. All up, I'm pretty happy with it.

The guy at the shop insisted that I take the other straight razor he had in the shop at no charge...I can't imagine why...nor what I'm going to do with it...



The scales aren't in too bad a condition, but someone etched their name in the side, so they're not really worth keep either. Still, the fellow at the shop was insistent I take it with me...who am I to say no? <laugh>

This brings my usable razor total to 4, two GDs, and the two shavable ones here (once cleaned up, of course). Now I just need to get my hands on a really fine hone for cheap...and a decent strop to replace the beginners one I've got...<sigh>

Too bad about the Demon, mine shaves very well. you can see it in the "jones bros & co ltd toronto", catalogue on page 51 (I would link it but don't know how) just google the above that is in quotes. I like the Wostenholm also, should be a good shaver. hopefully the germania will clean up well.

It's a pity, "Demon" razor was good.

Lol. Considering how she feels about me putting my razors near my face, I don't think a "cooch razor" is much of a possibility. I must say, though, that I came upon the thread about that for the first time this weekend and nearly fell off my chair laughing.
