    Default George Butler find

I visited my local antique/collectables shop on the offchance of further acquisitions. The owner has an interest in old tools such as planes, saws, chisels etc so he is likely to come across razors in his travels. Moreover he now knows my interest in old straight razors having obtained several razors over the past year so I count myself in rather a fortunate position.

He was not tending the shop but his wife was and she reckoned nothing more had been obtained. Never trust this sort of advice! I scanned the display cabinet and spied the familiar black boxes. Aha..I'd either missed these or this was new stock. Sure enough we unearthed a very nice condition George Butler & Son razor. The scales are a little damaged so I intend to replace with some spare scales. Some marks on the tang and blade but nothing too difficult to remove.

Didn't try it Stubear, assuming honing requirement which I'm not up to (yet ). I have already whipped off the scales though ready for refurbishment

Nice find. You have some great shaves coming your way.
I have 1 Butler (Shakespeare) and it is an excellent shaver. Took some time to get that Sheffield honed but once i got it done it has been very good performer.
