    Default Wife's Grandfather's razor

So my wife's folks were cleaning out her grandma's house the other day and stumbled across a few things that belonged to my wife's late grandfather that they thought I could put to use:
A Yankee Cutlery Lion Brand razor and an unnamed brush that was still in the box from a set with it and either a DE or early cartridge razor. I didn't realize I had cut it off until I was done downloading the pics but at the bottom of the box the brush is in it says "Made in the Colony of Hong Kong". I'm not sure what the brush is made of. It feels stiffer than any Badger I've ogled (or the one I have) but feels less stiff than any hog brush I've had.

*the Clearcut Razor Hone was not part of the findings. I found it at an antique store a few weeks back for $10 and hadn't posted any photos of the cool box yet.

Very nice. It could be a horse brush by your description. Not knowing your experience with quality boar it could be a higher quality example.

I have 3 boar brushes: a VDH that got used twice, then I found an Omega that I don't know the model # of. I also have an Omega 10048 which I thoroughly enjoy. Both brushes cost under $20 locally. Not sure if that counts as quality boar or not.

If it is horse hair that would be kind of exciting as I've heard it's a great compromise between boar's scubbiness & badger's softness.

Personally I think that the vulfix are of high quality and place omega somewhere middle to high. I would think it is possibly horse than. Consider yourself lucky if it is. If there is someone close to you or a meet coming up you may want to ask if you could try and compare the brushes. If you can't figure something out just send me a PM.

Happily, there is a Virginia meet up this coming weekend.
Sadly, it is also SWMBO's birthday.
Unless I surprise her with a trip to DC and then get lost on the way home and magically end up up at AFDavis' place to ask directions I don't think I'll be able to attend.
