Did Someone Say .... RAD ??
Fredrick Reynolds in Maple Micarta
Here's a little something I picked up on the 'bay' restored from Douglas Cutlery. It is a very old Reynolds full wedge that needed much love and attention and received it from him. It was a great job on a razor that was in pretty terrible shape.
It is a 3rd generation razor, and it's great knowing some of it's history. The only reason I was able to get it was the son of the original owner, who is now an old man himself, wanted this old razor to get a new life and Douglas was able to purchase and then restore it.
It was deteriorated pretty badly before restoration, and still shows the signs of the bad pitting it suffered. It has a beauty of a mirror now, but the pits were too deep to remove and it would have ruined it to have tried. That is obvious. It was a beauty of a save. Thank you Doug!
It is a 9/16ths now, but was a little larger in it's earlier life. The maple colored micarta was well done and the 2 wedge pins add a nice touch. The brass pinning highlights the Micarta coloring very nicely.
I love this old girl, and she was worth every cent I spent on her! My thanks to Douglas Cutlery for a very reasonable price for it as well. It is my first Reynolds and another razor I can take off my 'I need one of these' list. Onward ever the RAD marches.
All my best folks,
M
