Check out the picture at SRD. It doesn't have the gold fill either, and the scales are different. They have an extra plate for engraving. Looks like they changed quite a few things over time.

that is what my blade looks like except I was able to select a zodiac sign of pearl inlay to go on the scales, whereas everywhere I look you can't any more. I called classic shaving last week to inquire when they were going to have the Leo's in stock, they told me that there won't be anymore.

Now the important question, should I peel off the gold sticker on the scales? It was peeling when I opened up the package. I thought it was supposed to be a plate.

If you're going to question the condition of the razor with RoyalShave I wouldn't do anything to it. If your satisfied with what you got, then it's strictly personal preference. If you're going to keep it I would be sending it to a member for a shave ready hone job, unless you're already proficient at honing.

I'm not questioning the condition per se, I just have a lot of questions. For example, I thought the sticker was a gold plate, I had no idea that it was a sticker or if I am supposed to peel if off when new?

It's a sticker, never been a plate. In fact I think it'll look hideous if it was an inlay in addition to the zodiac sign/engraving plate.
As far as if you're supposed to peel it off, I don't think you're supposed to do it or not. It's the same as the seal on the metal box - are you supposed to peel it off, or leave it? Or may be similar to the 'intel inside' and 'windows' stickers that get put on computers - some people peel them off, some leave them on to wear off. BTW Thiers-Issard puts stickers on some of their horn and wood scales too.

Most vendors don't really bother to retake new photos when there are some changes to a razor model. I think they should, but I doubt that it'll happen any time soon.

As far as why the box was opened if they haven't done anything to the razor, you should contact the vendor. My guess is that they'll say they've opened it for inspection before shipping it, to ensure there aren't any defects.
