Thread: 15/8 straight from professional barber estate.

Found this on Ebay. From the estate of a professional barber in Oregon. The razor measures over 15 inches long, when open. The blade is 5" and the handle is 9". There is no writing on it, so I cannot tell you the maker. I wish that I knew more about it. I've seen some beasts in this forum and now I have mine. I think I would like to have it restored one day. Any info would be a plus.

I feel like that is a more a decorative piece than an actual shaving razor.

+1 on that, it definitely looks like a demonstrator, but the lack of makers mark is puzzling.

Looks homemade to me.

I'm no expert but the patina on the blade seems to have some age to it... never seen that set-up before. Seems to have had a bevel set also...

those scales remind me of the handle of a good hammer :P

If it is meant as a demonstrator or advertizing piece, it may not be heat treated.
When you hone it, watch what happens with the water. If it turns black very quickly, it means the blade is soft.

I appreciate your help on this. Since I'm new I don't know how to hone or own a hone..I'm still renting...LOL

How thick is the spine? For a razor that size it better be near a 1/2" thick to get a proper bevel if it was made for shaving. Definitely looks homemade and if it was heat treated properly it might take an edge. If the spine is too thin (As it appears in the photo's), you are going to have to hone that like a knife at an angle with the spine off the hone to get a proper cutting bevel.
