    It was freenode - looks like they pulled the ole switcheroo on us. We've got a temporary fix up which points to the same freenode webchat linked earlier by BKratchmer.

    I was able to go into chat but no text box on the screen so I could read but couldn't write.

    I've got my computer to do a update on different programs (Java here) and it seems that every time I upgrade something to do with Java I can't get into chat...FWIW...

    On Freenode's administrative blog they note that they have discontinued the Java interface... so this is a permanent end of Java-based IRC chat. Which, IMO is a good thing. Java is icky!
