    Default Blog Policy?

I don't remember seeing a detailed write up back when blogging started here at SRP, so forgive me if this has come up before....

Having a quick browse through the existing blogs I noticed that
    a) all blogs written thus far have been by moderators, mentors and vendors
    b) there is clearly no "Post New Blog" button, even though my profile shows a number of blogs
    statistic (naturally still at 0).

I clearly get the hint that us common folk down in the trenches don't have the priviledge of a personal blog, and that this is obviously by design.

So, for those of you in the know, what's the idea behind this? Will it ever change?

It's a 2 month old change Site changes in the near future
Pretty much all changes on the site happen on a test basis, so if something doesn't work it'll be modified, or reversed down the road.
I don't know what are the long term plans for the blogs if any, but I personally don't see a reason why they can't be expanded beyond the current groups.
May be one of these days Bruno can blog about the future of the blogs on his blog, you should send in a request

Thanks for the link Gugi, I must have missed that one when it came out.

Let's see what Bruno has to say on the matter - over to you, Bruno....

    Good point.

We've been running the blogs for a couple of months now, and nothing bad has happened. The current guidelines seem to work.
I'll write up a more formal addendum to the rules and see if the mods agree.
If there are no unforeseen issues we should be able to expand the blog roll. We'll still put in some time-in / post count requirements, but in your case that should not be a big issue

    I'll get back to you.

Ok this was on the back burner for a while.
Blogs will become available to senior members with 1000+ posts and minimum 1 year of membership, or 500+ posts and 2 years of membership.
I need to write down the rules still, but the summary will be

    1) blog only about shaving related topics. No personal, political, etc content.
    2) no reviews
    3) no making my life difficult.

I'll implement it so that the above requirements will automatically grant blog access.

Ok all, the changes have been activated.
The automatic promotion based on usergroup and post count as described above should kick in within the hour.
After that, all eligible users should be able to go the the blog page, click on 'my blog' and start blogging.
I'll ask one of the guys to update the site rules with the blog rules above, in a slightly more verbose manner.

Thanks for your diligence on this, Bruno. Now since I started this thread I guess I should gather my thoughts for my first blog....
