Valobra is perhaps most popular for its shave stick, though the soft soap, "Crema di Sapone Purissima" is alos well regarded. I got some of this in a rare scent, Fougere, from the site 1001seife.de, and I feel it's worthy of discussion.
The soap comes in a 150g brick, wrapped in plastic, paper and a cardboard box with a very classy lable. Nice. On opening, the first thing that you notice is the scent, of course. My first reaction was, "This smells just like the shave stick!" It has a clean, soapy smell, with a slightly flatter edge than the Stick. But, with a little time (and especially once you lather up) the fougere notes really come through.
Fougere (meaning "Fernlike") is a class of scents that includes "English Fern", "Wild Fern" and apparently also the scents in Erasmic Shave Stick and WARS cream. It has notes of lavendar, neroli, and bergamot. In this Valobra, it's a very subtle, somewhat herbal tone to the soap's inherent smell. It's understated, but has grown on my considerably. It might be my favorite soap scent; it's just enough to tickle your nose when you walk by, and really comes alive on the face.
The lather from Valobra soft soap is great. The soap is soft, so it is easily transferred to your favorite container, but lathers up like any soap. I use a boar brush, and follow Zach's Soap boar brush lathering technique, () and it gives a fantastic, creamy lather from Valobra. It is not the big, foamy meringue that people think is impressive, it's a thick smooth cream that protects and moisturizes the face. It gives a great shave, and it leaves your skin feeling fantastic.
So, lather is thick, long lasting, and moisturizing. Skin care is great. Scent is lovely. Overall? A darn fine soap, and a definite re-buy when I run out.
