    Default TGQ Bay Rum soap

The sampler I ordered from The Gentlemen's Quarter arrived today, so I gave the Bay Rum soap a try with the Body Shop Maca Root cream & glycerin.

First impression of the soap was the scent, very pleasing without being overpowering. As I mixed together an überlather I noticed the scent of the soap completely covered over the scent of the maca root cream. Since the Bay Rum scent is nice, it wasn't a problem, but I did miss the maca root smell.

Once the lather was built it was noticeably thicker and more solid than previous lathers. Before I've used the cream and glycerin and although it made a nice enough lather, iit always seemed thin. Once I added the soap it gave the lather much more body. As I shaved I could identify each pass from the lather on the razor, the lather kept enough shape that each 'ridge' was one pass.

Previous lathers didn't last terribly long before it dried out. As it dried it became slicker, but also stickier, as if it grabbed onto the razor as it passed by. With the soap included it was slick, but didn't get sticky at all. The razor loved going over my skin and didn't put up a fuss at the end of each pass.

So final verdict is I'll be using it again, and ordering a full puck once the sample's gone. I can't compare it to other soaps yet, but if it's soap vs no soap I'll take the soap please.

    Thanks Colleen!

I've been using Colleen's soaps almost exclusively for some time now. I always get a thick, consistent lather with great slip. The bay rum is by far my favorite scent.

    Default Curious

I received my sample pack too. Have a question for you. How many shaves do you normally get out of one of the soap samples? I got only one shave, maybe one and a half. Is that normal?
    Thanks for your help.

I've gotten 3 so far, and there's still plenty of soap left in the puck. I only soak the soap in water for about a minute, I remember reading other threads where guys let the soap soak the whole time they were in the shower and it ate through the soap much more quickly.

I'm also using soap and cream, so someone who uses only the soap will probably go through it faster, but I'd be surprised if you're supposed to use the entire puck in one or two shaves.

    Unhappy Hmmm......

    Thanks,
I do soak the the soap and brush while I'm in the shower, about 5 minutes. That explains it but that is still pretty fast for the soap to disappear.

The soap lathers well and it does smell good. I guess I need to soak the brush some other way, maybe take it to the shower with me?
