I've never noticed an oily feel to my skin after using MWF, just clean and slightly tighter. I've had very mild acne since I was a teen and still do, but this combined with a straight razor actually seems to have helped my skin. I follow up with Dominica Bay Rum after shave. The alcohol gets rid of any remaining oil.

Chris, I had exactly the same reaction the first time I smelled MWF. The smell is familiar, soft, clean, and old fashioned. When I smelled it I thought immediately of my childhood, for some reason. Can't put my finger on it either.

I like MWF, I've bought it a couple of times in the past but actually have run out at the moment. I've never owned any at the same time as owning Tabac (and thus been able to do a direct comparison) but it has always struck me as being a bit like an unscented version of Tabac.

One slight downside (and Tabac does the same), is that you need to leave the puck in the air to dry after shaving. If you keep it in a closed jar/box/container it seems to absorb any moisture left on it or in the container. This continues gradually so by the time you've used half of the product, you can end up with a big soggy swollen lump of soft soap that's useless.

I may order some more later today, but if I do it'll be kept in an open mug, rather than an airtight container.

Thanks for the tip on air drying the MWF. I noticed today after being gone from home a few days that my air dried MWF puck had many small fissures in the surface. After the MWF shave this morning I put my shave bowl on top of the mug the MWF is in. I should take the shave bowl off then.

Yeah if you leave it completely open it dries out and you get cracks appearing, though this doesn't seem to effect the soap in how it works/lathers. I suspect if it was a fragranced soap you might lose some scent if you let it dry out, but since it's non-fragranced its not an issue.

I'd rather have it too dry personally, when it goes wet and mushy its horrible. I had two pucks on the go last year in plastic containers (one for the bathroom, one in my travel bag) and I ended up throwing both out before they were even half used. Oh well, at least its a cheap soap!

Hmmm, I might have to get a nice new mug and a puck of MWF to go in it.

My guess is yes, soaps last a long time with proper use, especially the triple milled hard soaps. How much do you have left?

I'm starting to think there's something wrong with me. I do not like MWF. I love Tabac. I don't think they smell anything alike. I think MWF smells nasty. I get the soap smell, but there's something under it... kind of "dairy"-esque. I love the smell of Tabac. I think the MWF lather sucks (boar, badger, lots of loading, not a lot of loading, some water, lots of water, not enough water). I think the Tabac lather is explosive, cushioning, and slick.

Every time I read these threads I go back and try the MWF again and I remain unimpressed. I guess I'll be trying it again tomorrow. But then my crappy lather ****es me off and then I have to way 24-48 hours to shave again.

IMHO, MWF does not lather like as well as ALL other tallow soaps I've tried (DRH, P106, PC, Tabac, PdP, Haslinger). So you could have fooled me if you tell me it has tallow in it. Perhaps the lanolin counteracts it somehow.

I'll keep trying MWF. I've used it probably a dozen or more times with subpar results every time.

    Woe is me.

Ogie, That's not unusual at all. For me, it's Colleen's (TGQ) No matter what, it doesn't lather that great for me, and I've tried several different ones. I have a water softner too, so it really helps with soaps, not with hers, I'd never buy it again. Mama Bear's is awesome, SRD, Awesome, Tabac too. So, I don't know why Colleens soap doesn't work for me. Most guys on here rave about it. I love different soaps and creams. I think I have 60 on hand right now, so the good thing is, they really last for me...My MWF does have cracks in it from sitting out. I have a large bathroom and walk in closet which has become a shave den. Some creams I can't wait to use, Like TOBS Avacado, That stuff is awesome, and another favorite is T&H 1805. The fragrance is just intoxicating.

zib.. i have the same problem with TGQ. I PIF'd my puck to one of the members here. I'll keep trying new soaps. There are quite a few on my list and space is limited. I'm at the point now where if it doesn't blow my mind I'm going to give it to somebody else. MWF is almost at that point but I'm reluctant because of all the success everybody else seems to be having.
