Thread: The results of the Great Lavender Shoot-Out are in

Once more in the name of science, I have taken some time and risked my sensitive skin to compile an overview of the leading lavender scented creams and soaps for you. As previously (cf http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...shoot-out.html and http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ng-series.html), this has been an interesting experience. Thanks go, as always, to the good people at Straight Razor Designs and The Different Scent in Berlin for the samples and special prices.

For those of you who think that lavender is an unmanly scent, de gustibus non disputandum. All of the manufacturers listed below make these products with different scents, but lavender is a favourite of mine.

1. http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html (99%): Wonderful cream, with a wonderful, albeit somewhat strong, scent.
2. http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html (95%): If, for whichever reason, you should be looking for an alternative to Castle Forbes' "Lavender" shaving cream, here it is.
3. http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html (95%): Another stunning TOBS cream that comes at a stunning price.
4. http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...-lavender.html (83%): Very nice - if you like glycerine based soaps.
5. http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html (83%): Lovely smell, but expensive, and not exactly easy to lather up.

As always, these are my opinions, and therefore as personal as possible. If you are happy with your product, that is great. Why not write something about it in our review section? Small note: If you wish to add member reviews do not forget to add ratings.

So there, that is it. Castle Forbes wins (yawn...), if only by a small margin. The biggest surprise for me was how well SRD's soap performs, (a) because I really dislike soaps (much too much hassle to lather), and (b) because of its unique interpretation of lavender. Not to mention that is the cheapest of the products above, which is why it gets an extra prize in the bang-for-buck department.

Next one will be bay rums. If I can find a sufficient number of samples, that is...

Thanks for the work on these reviews. I'm a huge fan of Lavender scented products, and I agree with your assessments of the products that I used (CF & DR Harris). That CF is really luxurious. I'm curious if you tried the Czech & Speake's Oxford & Cambridge soap during your experiment, or was it too much of a departure from true lavender to qualify?

I just realized that I have NONE of those creams. I must rectify that immediately.

Although expensive, Castle Forbes is one of the best creams that I have ever used. It is truly amazing stuff.

An update. CarrieM's "KD Creations Lavender" comes in at #4 with 92%. The performance is the same as that of http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...tml#post588199, and the lavender scent is really quite excellent. Slightly less intense than Castle Forbes's, but I personally feel that this is a good thing.

I could have told you Castle Forbes would win and save you the effort. It is afterall the best shave cream in the Universe.
