Thread: Is L'Occitane Cade shaving cream really worth it?

I love the look of that tube, but $28 for it has kept me away. It seems very expensive for the amount you get.

I've never used a tube before. Do you get as much as from,say a tubof TOBS?
I can get almost 2 tubs for that price!

what's the reason to buy it? Scent? Lather? Performance?

I have both the L'Occitane Cade soap and shaving cream in my shaving arsenal. I like to combine them for superlather.

IMHO, you can obtain a great shave without using either. However, it lathers quite well and the fragrance of both is intoxicating.

Finish your shave with their Cade aftershave balm and L'Occitane's "L'Occitan" edt and you feel like a king.

While the Cade soap is decent performing (I happen to like all the other French ones better), the shave cream alone is downright bad. It doesn't lather very well at all and definitely isn't worth the money IMHO.

I can't comment on the cream, however I did have the soap, it came in an aluminium (or aluminum depending upon your location) bowl, I could barely get it to lather. As I didn't like to waste it, I even tried to use the puck as a soap in the shower, very frustrating, still wouldn't lather, I actually threw it out of the open window.

I'm with jhenry - I really like the soap myself, enough to justify the cost. Love the way it feels, lathers and smells. Intoxicating!

As others have said, the Cade soap is great. There are some serious questions to be answered about the ability of the cream to produce a lather. I couldn't get it to even mix with the water (and it was definitely the shave cream that I had!).

However, if you really want to try this, some of the outlet stores here in the UK have the cream in a 15ml (i.e. tiny) travel size. Sometimes these can be found in larger travel packs for men with other things inside like hand soaps, shower gels, etc. My advice is try to get hold of one of those directly or look at the bay or the classifieds. Someone may be able to get you one to try the cream out for yourself.

I have the shave cream and found no issue with making lather. I like the smell and the feel of the cream also. I have learned one thing about soaps and creams: you have to find the right amount of water to add, each one is very different. When I started wet shaving, I did not like soaps, any kind. I stuck with creams for years (about 20) since I never took the time to learn to get a good lather from soaps. Now I am enjoying both creams and soaps, sometimes combining them.

I don't think I spent 28 bucks for it, but I have no recollection of the price.

I do use the L'Occitane soap, among several others, and like it. Lather is fine. So are cushion and glide. While not among the highest on my list of preferred soaps, nevertheless I do recommend it. I don't, however, remember ever using the cream, or if I did, it must not have made an impression on me.

The only soap I use is Cade, and I use the Cade Shave Cream as well. As others have said, I have dropped a little bit of the cream in my shaving bowl along with the Cade soap and have found it works great. If you're careful with it, it lasts a very long time and is worth the expense.

I use the aftershave so as far as scent goes - it is my favourite.
