Thread: Truefitt & Hill, Art of Shaving shaving creams..or any other... :X

So i'm really impatient. and the only places i can get quality shaving creams (preshave oils and aftershaves too) are either Nordstrome's or high end barber shops. all they really seem to have is Truefitt & Hill and Art of Shaving.. (in the Houston area) this is some high dollar stuff (for a college student..me..;] ) the shave cream and preshave oils tend to be in the $25-30 range and the after shaves are like $40-50!!! am I going to have to deal with these sort of prices for great wet shaving creams? or are here any other brands with creams at better prices? i love sandalwood, rose, lavender and violet.. and Gillette doesnt make stuff like that. please helpp!

If you're on a budget like I am, I find Taylor of Old Bond Street very difficult to beat for the money. They have many, if not all, of the scents you mention. Check out their reviews on this site and elsewhere... they come quite highly recommended. They also have an avocado which I find to be excellent.

You may have to buy it online though.

There are many sources put there that not only have better prices but also higher quality products, unfortunately most if not all are through online vendors. For aftershaves I love ogallala bay, you'll be able to het a lifetimes worth for less then a single bottle at AOS the sample pack is a great way to try everything for cheap. For soaps there are a couple people I know on this site making some great stuff, AL's Bomb and mama bear come to mind I like the former and have not used the later but hear great things. Unfortunately wet shaving is not yet popular enough for many stores to carry a large variety of our supplies. Art of shaving fills a need for a physical store but their prices aren't the lowest (accept on some TI razors it seems) and their quality while decent is not the best.

There's an on-line Italian Barber Supply shop that has some low-priced items. How about the in-house store?

Trufitt & Hill is some good stuff. Bath and body works also has the tube of biggelow's. My old standby is Proraso in the green tub...it's cheap and works with about any water. Among the high end shave products, Truefitt & Hill holds an honorable spot. You can't go wrong with their products, but they do cost money. If given a choice between the two you have mentioned, I would take Truefitt & Hill any day.

Yes, as these gentlemen have noted, there are other products of high quality at a lower price. Dr. Bigelow (Proraso) at Bath and Body Works, Pre de Provence, L'Occitane and the Body Shop also have reasonable prices. Also, you can't forget the artisan products here at SRP, including Al's Shaving, Carrie's creams, and others.

Quality does cost money, but obviously the wallet has a mind of its own.

C.O. Bigelow is, in my opinion, your best bet!

I bought a BIG tube of it a Bath & Body Works for $10 and it's lasting me quite awhile. The Menthol scent is quite nice, and the Eucalyptus gives a great tingle while shaving. Wonderful cream, for the price, IMO.
