    And that's what I did. I realized that, unlike a run-of-the-mill puncture from a nail, this one had actually severed tire cords, and recognized that the tire had, literally, been torn by the bolt.

    So, another of the same tire, and another of the same inner tube (Continental "Tour 28 All"). Tire 'n tube mounted on wheel, and wheel mounted on bike. I've promised myself to not ride "in-town" again -- whatever and wherever there are bike lanes, they're full of debris.

    Wow, that's a strange bolt to go through the tread like that. Never seen anything like that before. Very unfortunate and expensive.

    A little late i know, but you would probably get away with a tyre liner - usually to add puncture resistence
