The 5/8 Dovo tortoise was my first razor and a Christmas gift from my wife. I really enjoy using it. Nice shave, in fact I used it today.

Lynn, I appreciate the recommendations, but I'm old enough to make my own decisions, you can try the Chronik yourself

That's really great. I think you should buy a Chronik. They go for around $5 and I hear they are the best shavers in the universe.

    Have fun,

    Lynn,

Yup, from what I've read Chronik is where it's at. I'm keeping my eyes peeled and a Lincoln at ready in my pocket.

I just ordered one yesterday from SRD. It will be my first straight razor. I am really looking forward to receiving it and giving it a go.

I think I did good in my purchase. Did quite a bit of homework before ordering.

I use the 6/8 DOVO Special, its my first and only razor, I have nothing to compair it to , but it shaves great and I couldnt imagine finding a better razor in this price range.

    Default 5/8 Dovo Tortoise

Jim at Vintagebladesllc was very helpful in advising me on my first fixed staight edge razor purchase. I wanted a good peformance blade, without the many "bells and whistles" and I wanted to use this straight edge as my main straight edge razor.

I was coming off a disposable blade straight edge which is very sharp and unforgiving.

The DOVO Tortoise out of the box was professionally presharpened. Compared to my super sharp disposable blade straight edge, I found the DOVO Special Blade to be forgiving and more manageable when shaving. I am able to get the BBS results with a 2x or 3x pass, depending on how much growth I have.

I Strop the canvass 40 times, and 40 times on the leather after each shave and 20 times each before the next shave. There is no paste on my canvass.

When its time to hone, I will take the next step in this learning curve.

Overall, solid advice and solid performance.
