I haven't found any review on this razor in the the threads, so I tought I could write a few words.
I got mine from Ken at Ruprazor.com.He goes by the name of Kenrup at SRP.
Let me start by saying that Ken is a really stand up guy to to buisiness with.He will, as I guess most of the guys here stretch to make a customer feel happy.
Now for the razor:
The wapi is 53 dollars + shipping, wich is in my opinion a good price. Its 11/16ths, round point, full hollow ground.
The scales are plastic, and apparantly comes in different colours.(The picture is from Ruprazor.com.,mine has brown handles.Hope its ok to use the picture Ken.My camera didn't work)
The wapi is really a surprisingly good shaver.I have 15 shaveready razors, most of them far more expencive. But still I tend to shave quite often with my wapi. For me this would be a perfect entry level razor.First and formost because it is relativly cheap and a great shaver. But also because it is very easy to hone.If you are a newb, and would like to learn to hone and shave with a straight right away.
(Not recomended, but I sure did) That is in my opinion a strong argument to buy a new wapi instead of some vintage at the same price.I wish this was my first straight,it sure would have saved me alot of trouble, both in honing and shaving.
If I were to point my finger at something, it would be the scales. They are cheap plastics, and at best ordinary. But then again, you're not paying for a piece of art, you're paying for a great everyday shaver, that takes a keen edge with great ease.As far as points I would give this razor a 9/10 when you consider the price.
My take on the difference between the two razors is this. I like the initial feel of the Wapi II as it has a much better balance with the plastic scales. The shave comfort is about the same. The steel is different from the old to the new. Both hone very well. There is a lot of sentimental attachment to original Wapi and rightly so. Many of us started with them and still have them. I think Wapi II will become a great choice for an entry level razor because of the price and solid quality. I think they are just a step above the Double Arrow.
