The Pro-Forma Strop
First off, an apology to Damon. He sent me one of his strops a long time ago to evaluate. For several reasons, I didn't get around to it right away, so my review took longer than was expected, or was reasonable. But now, to the review (and please understand I'm not a strop expert, but I am pretty good at knowing what works and what doesn't)
First off, it's a very well-made, yet simple strop. Nothing fancy or frivolous. It's almost just the size I like. I like a bit longer strop, but that's merely personal preference, and doesn't detract from the functional qualities of this one at all. It's a nice piece of leather, with a good feel. I really like the double-thick stitched handle. I'm a big fan of handles on my strops, rather than just the hanging leather. It really lets you get some tension on the strop.
The main reason it took me so long to get around to reviewing the strop was the hanging method. I have eye bolts drilled into my bathroom countertop, rather than a hook. I had to purchase a swivel clamp to use with the central grommet.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this strop for either a beginner or experienced user. It's not fancy, but it is effective and well designed. The workmanship on it is first rate, and particularly as a low cost beginner's strop, it's a great bargain. It'll get the job done without breaking the bank.
