    Default Dimond Polishing Paste

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying some dimond paste to put onto a hanging strop to use after honing on my 8k norton. Looking around for site in UK that sell it (which took quite a while), I found the following set of products that I was thinking of getting.

    http://www.eternaltools.com/viewprod...?txtRangeID=36

I was thinking of getting the 1 micron and 1/4 micron. I was woundering if anyone could tell me whether these products would be fine?

Also, has anyone tried Aluminium Oxide Paste on a strop?

    Thanks for any information,

    Steven

    Steve,

The .25 micron has a reputation for leaving too fine an edge. It gets delicate.

I'd go for .5 micron or maybe some chromium oxide from HandAmerican.

Dito that. The 3 might be more useful too since 1 & 0.5 are so close together, but don't take my word for it. Get the opinion of somebody who's used them.

I think there must be a typo there on the 1/4 micron. It should be more like 50,000 grit. Maybe they meant 1/2 micron instead which would more closely match the grit size listed.

    Thanks for all the info.

I think I might just buy the 1 micron paste and use it on a new strop.

Just to clarify, I can use this just after my 8K norton to polish the edge and sharpen it even further?

Yes, the 1 micron is a good next step from the Norton 8K.

Hi, I belive I got mine from

    http://shop.johnlloydfinefurniture.c...35/af/page.htm

Cost about 50, which I do think is expensive, but from what I understand it should last me a life-time.

Uh, and hello to Pea from UK. I know what you mean, it can be very difficult to find stuff here in the UK. I should be buying it in the next few weeks, so I'll let you know how it goes. Should start a thread with locations to buy stuff from in the UK!

I got my norton from the same place, ie john lloyd.

Now, i have bought waterstones before, and although 50 quid sounds like alot, the quality seems to be excellent. It comes well packaged, and has a nice box for protection. (im a sucker for packaging!)

LAP IT FIRST THOUGH. I made the mistake of assuming it was flat. That kinda contradicts the quality statement, but they really are nice, and lapping isn't a huge job.

Your right, nerobot, uk suppliers thread is a great idea. You start it though, cos my search engine skills are crap!!

    Take the plunge bradford!!!!
