    Default Stropping-Draw Tip

    Hi Guys,

For those of you who like a little extra draw from your strops, try rubbing your palm back and forth 50-100 quick runs prior to stropping your razor. You should find that this really creates more draw than stropping a cold strop right off so to speak.

Rubbing the palm back and forth on the strop on a regular basis is still a great idea to keep your strop supple and also to help break them in.

Let me know how this works for you.

I hand rub the strop before and after each use and find that this is all the conditioning needed to keep it supple and providing a fine edge. I use an Old Dog 830 cordovan/bovine that I know some consider to be too stiff and slick but I find it provides a superb edge especially on full hollows.

    Lynn,

This is remarkable. I can now shave with my left hand -- without the razor!!!

Just for the heck of it I will try some more laps with my hand. For some reason I have always buffed a strop with my palm before using it, dunno why, just have always done it.

So have I, but I think it was out of consideration to keep the strop supple and clear of tiny debris. I'll have to try a few more back and forths and see how it affects the strop, thanks Lynn!

I've been using my redbone coon hound myself. They have a naturally oily texture that wonderfully conditions as you rub and she just thinks she'a getting scratched. Seriously folks i just bought my first straight razor (DOVO ebony) and need some serious advice on a strop and how to properly condition and use it.

Helpful to hear the number of runs. I'd been running my palm back 5-7 times on my new (and first) strop. I will up the number and see how it goes
