Thread: japanese straight razor

my question is how do you strop a japanese straight razor or do you strop them at all we have honing vids. on them but i have never seen any one stroping them.

I was told to strop it just like a western razor.

So does that mean that you should use the 3:2 honing pattern when using a pasted strop?

Yes if you are using pastes you would use a ratio since you are honing. As far as the 3:2 goes it isn't really written in stone. You have to experiment with it. Personally, these days I do way more strokes with the shaving edge than with the other.
