Thread: Dang I am good- at messing things up

I am fairly new to using a straight razor. I received a new razor and it was not honed properly from the get go..I sent it to Lynn he did a jam up job. He did recommend a zink oxide stick for the back side of my strop to help keep it keen.
Things were going great in my straight razor world and then i did it...All I can figure is i must of nicked the edge of my leather strop and ran the blade over it a few times before i noticed. When I was done stropping I noticed a little leather on the blade. I gently scratched it of and noticed a very slight deformation in the blade. It is extremely small, but none the less it is still there. I have used the razor and it is pulling a little now. I just place an order for the crome ox and some strop neatsfoot oil. Do you all thing the crom ox will correct the deformation in the blade?

Shoot it back and I'll fix it and re-hone it for you on me.

You truly are.. I cannot believe the blade is that delicate. I couldn't have ran over it more than once or twice. Since the mistake I have sanded the strop down and rubbed it smooth. Can I give you a call one day Lynn? And thanks again.

Another thing to take into account: If you, AT ALL, flipped the razor and the edge baaaarely tapped the hardware at either end, depending on how hollow ground it is, that may be the culprit.

Well, we've all done something like that t some point or another...Except me , of course.

It is very nice of Lynn to do this.

I apologize for my ignorance, but I didn't know about ZnOx...CrOx, I know, but ZnOx...that is new. Nevertheless, CrOx is a nice green paste...it gives the edge a nice smoothness. I use it and got it from SRD.

My advice: get another razor that you can mess things up on or practice on...something you don't care that much about. This way, you can use it to learn honing, polishing edges, etc...and never worry about this happening again.
