Cool CrOx pasted strop and 0.25 diamond felt

    I have both of these.

I though the CrOx was 0.5 micron, and the diamond paste I have is 0.25 micron. Shouldn't I be using the CrOx first and then the Diamond? Now I'm told the CrOx is actually the finer grit and I should use it last?

    How is it done??

    Confused again!

I have two strops with the same set up as you and have been told that despite
the fact that the diamond is "finer" than the CrOx the diamond's aggressive action
means that the CrOx should be used last as it effectievely smoothes out the edge
without losing any sharpness. It has worked well for me.

    jeffegg2,

The diamond is a much more aggresive cutter than the CrOx, and needs a very light hand.

I have found the edge off the 0.25 micron, and even the 0.5 micron diamond to be a bit 'harsh' for my tastes.

A few laps on the CrOx pasted strops seems to add the smooth needed after the diamond for me.

Howver, this is a YMMV thing, and lots of SRP posters have used the razors straight off the diamonds, both 0.25 & 0.50 and have found the edges much to their liking.

Try both the diamond and CrOx in isolation, then in combination and see what you like best

    Have fun !

    Best regards

keep in mind that the diamond is sharp crystal shape and CrOx is round
So if you use crox first and then diamond going back to crox can still smooth the edge a little
