Thread: Stropping a smile?

I recently acquired a few customs that have a smile to them. Ive been using a slightly rolling stropping motion. Kind of an "X" pattern with the heel leading a little more than usual. I guess my question is..... is this the right technique and what do you guys do when stropping a smile?

What I find best is giving the strop a bit of extra slack. That way the entire blade is in contact with the strop for the whole lap, with no need for a rolling motion or anything else out of the norm.

Instead of rolling with every stroke, I roll every few strokes. So I do a few on the front, a few on the middle, and a few on the heel. Then a few on the heel, middle, and front. Back and forth.

That's how I do it . The more you do it the better you will get at it (duh) . For me , the x stroke naturally allows for what has been described as a "rolling" motion .

I use this method a lot, I get in the rhythm of top, middle, bottom, top middle,bottom. Sometimes I use a rolling stroke. Both ways work but I like the first way better.

I strop all my razors the same no matter the edge type. I use an X pattern and mix up how I draw it over the strop.
